Official Decision of UOCC Metropolitan re: Calendar Change to be Shared Dec. 1

Just a reminder that parishes will receive notice from His Eminence, Metropolitan ILARION, primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, this Friday December 1st as to his decision regarding the potential change of Church calendar from Julian to new-Julian, following in the footsteps of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. On Saturday, our parish priests will meet with the parish council to decide how to proceed and will communicate these potential changes.

NOT Forcing Changes

It is important to remember that His Eminence, Metropolitan EPIFANIY, primate of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, did not force parishes to change. It was explicitly stated that parishes who wish to stay on the Old Calendar may do so, or may change later. And this is consistent with a general Orthodox custom of NOT forcing changes in other parishes (that said, if it is something heretical and deemed as wrong by an entire council of Bishops, then a decision may be enforced but most likely by just stopping the individual or group from practicing).

Please Continue to Pray!

As always, just because the metropolitan is a bishop, does not mean he does not require our prayers. Please continue to keep him and our priests in your prayers - that they may be open to God’s will.

ASK OTETS: Any lingering questions?

Unity is key as we move forward and it must be underlined that this potential change is truly complex and very personal, tightly linked to many people’s identity. If you have any other questions about what this change might entail, please submit a comment below and/or contact Fr. Jaroslaw or Fr. Vasyl personally.
