Ecumenical Patriarch: Holy Physicians constitute special anchor for all those serving in medical field

On October 17, 2021, the Church will honor for the first time the contribution of medical science to humankind following the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the Synaxis of the Holy Physicians.

The Holy Synod decided to establish the Sunday closest to October 17 and 18 each year (when the Synaxis of the Holy Unmercenary Healers and the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke the Doctor are commemorated) as the day of the Synaxis of all the Holy Physicians “as an appreciation for the essential contribution of the medical science and its ministers toward humanity.”

In the encyclical, the Ecumenical Patriarch stressed the significance of the doctors, nurses, and specialist healers and the reasons to be honored by the Church.

Specifically, he mentioned: “As bearers of divine grace and imitators of the God-man Christ who sanctified and renewed all creation through His incarnation, the objective of their endeavors was to introduce the fallen nature of humankind to the new creation by jointly healing body and soul, thereby demonstrating the value of human existence as a psychosomatic unity, but also the mutual unity between God and humanity.”

The encyclical congratulated and praised the work of the physicians since “as the Saints, exercised their profession and afforded care and support to the sick, contributed their services with self-sacrifice and tenderness, surpassing human standards under difficult circumstances, in order to confront the multidimensional consequences of this health crisis.”Excerpt from: Fr. …The silence of a spiritual father, as an indication of a stillness, is not simply the absence of talk, of noise, of sound, but it is the presence of the attention of the listener. In another perspective, stillness is not the enemy of action. Stillness indicates the means of ensuring all the actions are suffused with an awareness of the presence of God. In stillness we drawback into silence to became aware of God's presence at the centre-point, where we are attentively waiting and listening.

Вселенський Патріарх видав енцикліку до церковного свята лікарів

17 жовтня 2021 року Православна Церква вперше відзначить офіційне Свято святих лікарів.

Священний Синод вирішив щорічно в неділю, найближчу до 17 і 18 жовтня, відзначати День Синаксису всіх святих лікарів.

В енцикліці Вселенський Патріарх наголосив на важливості лікарів, медсестер, медичних працівників, а також чому їх вшановує Церква.

Зокрема, він зазначає: “Як носії божественної благодаті та наслідувачі Боголюдини Христа, які освятили та оновили все творіння через Його втілення, метою їхніх зусиль було ввести занепалу природу людства до нового творіння шляхом спільного зцілення тіла і душі, тим самим демонструючи цінність людського існування як психосоматичної єдності, але також і взаємної єдності між Богом і людством”.

Енцикліка відзначає працю лікарів, оскільки “як святі, здійснюючи свою професію та надаючи турботу та підтримку хворим, надавали свої послуги з самопожертвою та ніжністю, що перевищує людські норми за складних обставин, аби протистояти багатовимірним наслідкам пандемії”.
